Snarky Puppy is constantly pushing music forward, and it looks like they are having a blast doing so. Their precise execution of complex syncopation accompanied by Michael League's beautifully structured harmonic layering, leaves me awestruck every time. Every musician in this group is top-notch. If you want to talk about groove, these guys are some of the best out there! Plus, the fact that they are laughing and smiling while making such incredible music makes this that much more enjoyable. It's always good seeing happy people doing what they love!
Why the Jellyfish?
No, the answer is not simply, “because they look so friggin’ rad, bro!” Yes, their appearance is easy to marvel at, yet there is a much deeper meaning as to why David and I chose the jellyfish to be associated with Mutual Groove.
Shamans around the world have believed the jellyfish to be a symbol of acceptance and faith. Jellyfish simply, and quite literally, go with the flow. They have almost no ability to move on their own, so they must trust that the currents will provide them with the necessary nourishment to survive. There is no way for them to force things to happen—a lesson that I believe is worthy of noting. David and I have naturally seemed to live our lives this way. Yes, there have been moments in which we have tried to abnormally push for things to come to fruition, yet almost always, the universe has shown that the path was turning in a different direction than we had expected, and, so far, all has turned out for the better.
When you learn to accept that you are not necessarily in grand control of everything in your life, and have faith that the energies of the universe will guide you in the right direction, you will find yourself with less stress—happier—and a bit more enchanted with the present instead of dwelling on the past or future. You will learn to trust that your intuition and instinct are a little more accurate than you presumed. So, when you find yourself tense and anxious about a certain situation, relax—let go—and let the natural current of your life take you where you’re supposed to go, maintaining faith that all will be okay in the grand scheme of things.
The jellyfish grooves in its own way. Do you?
